Sassenach's Dream Cast

While there doesn't seem to be any definitive news about the supposed Outlander mini-series on ABC, that doesn't stop Outlander fans from indulging in wild speculation about the cast. The truth is, the cast will probably be comprised mostly of unknowns. However, if I could cast the movie and choose anyone I wanted for the roles (assuming money is no object), I would assemble the following cast (click on thumbnails to view larger pictures in a new window):

Jamie: Ewan McGregor

Well, we know he can do a proper Scottish accent. Redden his hair up a bit... do you see it?

Claire: Julia Ormond

Julia Ormond is British, and she is just how I imagined Claire. Incidentally, the age difference between Julia Ormond and Ewan McGregor is almost identical to the age difference between Claire and Jamie.

Frank/Black Jack: Rupert Everett

He has the dark good looks I imagined Black Jack and Frank would have. I can see him playing the gentle, refined Frank as well as the sadistic, evil Black Jack.

Geillis: Rebecca DeMornay

Put some green contacts in, and she's the spitting image of Geillis Duncan. She is also very adept at portraying cunning women.

Laoghaire: Kirsten Dunst

She has Laoghaire's blond good looks, but is also able to convincingly play a conniving bitch (though I'm sure she herself is a nice person).

Dougal: William Shockley

William Shockley is probably best known as Hank Lawson on Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman. He has reddish hair, and just looks like Dougal to me.

Murtagh: Billy Connolly

Billy Connolly is a famed Scottish comedic and dramatic actor. I think he would capture gruff Murtagh perfectly.
